Deuk Yong Lee’s Laboratory, namely Biomaterials and Tissue Engineering Laboratory, provides an academic environment where Daelim students and researchers can learn and develop the engineering skills and attitudes necessary to become great innovators throughout the course of their career. The laboratory is suitably setup to study engineering sciences in relation to Matter and Health Care with broader economic and sociological impact on “biomedical convergence engineering”.
After retiring from Daelim University after 32 years of experience, Deuk Yong Lee joined Hass R&D Center as a technical advisor in March 2024. Previously, he was professor of the biomedical engineering department at Daelim University. Prior to joining Daelim University in March 1992, he was graduate associate of the Materials Science and Engineering department at Arizona State University (ASU). He graduated from Yonsei University, Korea, in 1984 and received his MS and PhD from The University of Texas at Austin (UT) and ASU at Tempe in 1986 and 1991, respectively. His industrial experience includes head of research institute at CMKor Inc. (2000~2005) and senior research scientist at Acucera (2000~2009). He currently serves on editorial board member of Journal of Functional Biomaterials.
Dr. Lee's laboratory is located in Dasan Building Room #308. The biomaterials and tissue engineering laboratory at the Daelim University has the capability of manufacturing the biomaterials and test the mechanical, chemical properties and biocompatibility (ISO 10993-5). In particular, the Dr. Lee's fabricating facilities are unique and well versed in research community.
His research interests are in a broad spectrum of Biomaterials and Tissue Engineering. He has authored/co-authored more than 500 technical publications including 218 referred journal papers and has received 1 US patent and 12 Korea patents. He is a recipient of the 2004 Research Achievement Award form the Korea Ceramic Society and the 2019 Distinguished Scholar Award from the Korean Society of Medical & Biological Engineering. He received the Minister of SMEs and Startups Award (2017), the Prime Minister Award (2020), and the Gyeonggi Province Teachers' Association Award (2024).
